I'm a frequent to Michigan Ave. (colloquially known as the Mag Mile). A long stretch of storefronts ranging from Zara to more high-end boutiques further north, the Mag Mile has a little bit of everything when it comes to the average person. Located right across from the Apple Store is the accessible Blue Bottle Coffee. They provide indoor and outdoor seating.
One sticks out to me at this location is the quality of drinks they have. I know, I know, every café in the world including the ones in Chicago are going to claim this. However, there is an elegance and simplicity to Blue Bottle Coffee beverages.
Whether it's the Caffè Latte, Sweet Latte, or Caffè Mocha, each of the drinks are crafted leaving you with nuanced flavors and a feeling that the original crafter of these drinks was meticulous in creating a specific experience. During my visit writing this review, I ordered the Iced Lavender Yuzu Latte with oat milk.
The drink came out at a normal pace, not the fastest I've ever seen. Upon first sip, you notice the signature but also in describable flavor that seems unique to Blue Bottle Coffee. Floral, sweetish, with a mouthfeel that coats your entire tongue, The Lavender Yuzu Latte is the reason why continue to return to this location (that and they have a single occupancy bathroom when in a pinch).
If you're interested in the strong coffee-flavors over the strongly sweetened varieties in other chains, you will find yourself at home at Blue Bottle Coffee. My latest visit a week after my Yuzu Latte was a rainy one. Something about the view of Chicago from the window seat just hits right. If I rated these spots on people watching, this would be a 10/10.
